Singer, songwriter, and flutist, Lizzo was born in Detroit but raised in Houston, Texas, where she began performing and at the age of 14 started a music group called Cornrow Clique with her friends. In 2006, she enrolled at the University of Houston and studied classical music focusing on the flute.
In 2011, she made the move to Minneapolis, where she started performing in musical groups including Lizzo & the Larva Ink and Chalice, a three-piece all-female rap group. In 2013, Lizzo released her debut "Lizzobangers" and her second studio album "Big Grrl Small World" dropped in 2015.
Lizzo got her big musical break after signing with Atlantic Records in 2016, and releasing her extended play "Coconut Oil," which featured her hit single "Good As Hell." Her third studio album, "Cuz I Love You," went on to feature her song "Juice." Her 2017 song "Truth Hurts" also gained popularity in 2019 after going viral on TikTok and appearing in the Netflix movie Someone Great, earning her her first No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.
Lizzo won three Grammy Awards in 2020 and recently signed a production deal with Amazon Studios.
